Container Committee
Committee head: Rose Kelly (rkelly@iwu.edu)
What you did this semester:
What you did this semester:
- Initiated a reusable container program in Tommy’s! 100 containers were bought by Sodexo to be placed in Tommy’s for use. Students are able to purchase a “tag” which can then by traded in for a container. The dirty container can then be returned to Tommy’s where the tag will be returned to the student.
- Meet with Mike Welsh to talk about bringing container program to the new Dugout next year.
- Write a Letter to the Editor in the Argus in response to an article about the container program.
- Increase the popularity of the container program and increase user ship
- Establish new sustainable container program on campus. Increase the popularity of reusable coffee cups at The Coffee Shoppe and Hattie’s for example.
- Find ways to decrease the amount of trash being made at IWU.
Fracking Committee
Committee head: Brittany Brady (bbrady@iwu.edu)

- Continuing to research and stay up-to-date on fracking issues
- “No Fracking” stickers

Taking Back the Tap Committee
Committee Head: Nicole Chlebek (nchlebek@iwu.edu)
What you did this semester:
We planned a week-long event to promote the use of reusable water bottle, the hydration station, recycling, and our success in Sodexho’s agreement to not sell disposable water bottles on campus. We also showed the film “tapped” to students on campus. We proposed a competition for best sticker design to be placed on water bottles for Professor McElroy’s art class in the fall of 2013.
Future Goals of committee:
Description: Did you know that disposable plastic water bottles cost on average more than 1900 times more than tap water, and are less regulated than public tap water as well? The aim of the water bottle committee is to get rid of disposable plastic water bottles on campus, so if this is something that interests you, we are always looking for more people to join us! We meet every other week, and discuss what we can do to help this goal become a reality.

Future Goals of committee:
- Raise money to buy reusable water bottles for incoming freshman.
- Promote the use of reusable coffee mugs and cups for fountain drinks. Also, work on getting reusable cups and mugs to give out to students ,or at least make them cheaper to buy.

Currently the committee is working on assessing the current recycling infrastructure on the IWU campus, mapping out waste and recycling bins to assist with the transition to Single-stream recycling scheduled to take place in May 2013.
