2005-2006 Events
Far Left Carnival Friday, September 5th, 2003This year's Far Left Carnival was quite a success. Econ Society set up a table in conjunction with the Risk Management group. We had quite a large turnout and a good amount of interest in Econ Society. Thanks to all those who came out to run the table and we hope to see many fresh new faces at our upcoming events.
Ice Cream Social Wednesday, October 1st, 2003
We had a fairly significant turnout at this year's ice cream social. Despite being banished from the Underground due to another University program, we were able to introduce professors and exec board members. We hope to see more new faces at our upcoming events.
Speaker Presentation: Dr. David Vance Wednesday, November 5th, 2003 7 p.m. in Room C101, Center for Natural Sciences
Dr. Vance spoke on the current state of the economy. He is currently the President of Caterpillar University, a distance learning program for Cat dealers and employees. Dr. Vance recieved his Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and served as Caterpillar's chief economist for several years prior to taking the position as Caterpillar University's President.
Speaker Presentation: Pedro-Gomis-Porqueras Thursday, November 13th, 2003 7 p.m. in Room C101, Center for Natural Sciences
Dr. Gomis-Porqueras spoke about the differences and similarities between the Federal Reserve System and the European Central Bank. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Miami. Dr. Gomis-Porqueras recieved his Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and has served as a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
Brown Bag Discussion Friday, November 21st, 2003 at Noon in CLA 305
This Brown Bag Discussion featured Dr. Ram Singh, an ISU professor, who spoke about the economics of developing countries. This provided a great opportunity for individuals interested in development economics.
Econ Society Goes to the Movies Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003 7 p.m.
In the end, Boiler Room won out over Italian Job as the movie of choice this year. A small gathering of us joined Dr. Leekley and Dr. Seeborg for the event. There was plenty of pizza to go around and everyone had an excellent time.

Jenny shared her professional and graduate experiences with us. She is currently in a PhD program at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Dr. Mendez spoke about dollar devaluation.
Speaker Presentation: Dr. Sherrilyn Billger Wednesday, March 10th, 2004 at 7 p.m. in Room C101, Center for Natural Sciences
Dr. Billger spoke on the effect of single-sec schooling on labor market outcomes. She received her PhD from the University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana with a concentration in Labor Economics and currently teaches at ISU.
Brown Bag Discussion Thursday, March 11th, 2004 at Noon in CLA 305
This brown bag discussion featured Justin Leverton and focused on law school and what to expect from law school.
Panel Discussion with Dr. Seeborg Late March/Early April 2004
Dr. Seeborg addressed the issue of immigration and, specifically, Bush's proposed immigration changes.
