Although we prize our commitment to scholarship, we still love to have a good time! Alpha Gamma Delta has four major dances each year, in addition to weekly exchanges with fraternities on Thursday nights.
Our first dance of the year is our New Member Informal, in October. The new members plan everything for this dance- theme, favors, location, decorations, etc. The theme is only revealed to the rest of the house a few days before the dance, even though we all try to find it out before! In the past, some themes have been Biker/American Badass, Rhinestone Rodeo, Jungle Boogie, and Alpha Gammadelic. It's always a great time, and not just for us, but for our dates too!
The next dance is our Rose Formal, which celebrates the Initiation of our new members in early December. We get so excited finding dates and borrowing dresses, not to mention how happy we are to initiate our newest sisters into AGD!
Spring Formal occurs during 2nd semester. It's just like Prom, only better! It's held at a hotel (past Spring Formals have been held at the Radison and the Chateau) and we are served a fabulous dinner followed by a night of dancing and fun.
We close out the year with our annual Crush Dance, in which each member gets to anonymously invite three dates. Our social chair personally hands out invitations (conveniently glued onto a can of Orange Crush) to our lucky guests. It's great for those secret crushes that we all have! The atmosphere of this dance is laid back and casual, and always a good time.
As fun as dances and formals are, social life at AGD would not be complete without our exchanges. As said before, there is usually one exchange a week, on Thursday nights, but of course they are not mandatory, because many of us have early Friday classes. Every semester, we have one exchange with each of the IWU fraternities. There is always a theme, and it just gives us an excuse to find a fun outfit hang out with some great guys. Some of last year's themes were Survivor, Super heroes, 80's, New Years, and Thug Life, just to name a few. Our infamous Theta Chi exchanges are Water Wars (a giant water balloon fight in the fall) and Toga Party (in the spring) and these themes always stay the same because everyone likes them so much.
We also have exchanges with ISU fraternities which are always a blast. Last spring we had exchanges with Lambda Chi, Delta Sigs, and Sig Tau.
However, we all know that we don't always need men to have a good time! In past years, we have had exchanges with our friends in the other sororities here, along with ISU Alpha Gams, usually on Thursdays during "Friends." And of course some of us invite our friends (either from other sororities or independents) to dances and events. Girls do have more fun, right?
If you ever want to set up an exchange with us, please contact our social chair at 309-556-3213.

Sisterhood events are also important to us! Sometimes we just need to have some good ole Alpha Gam bonding, and our sisterhood chair is always finding ways for us to do so. In addition to our frequent movie nights and gossip sessions, we also have scheduled events with the sole purpose of sisterhood.
Every January we have a Superbowl Party in our awesome rec room with tons of food. There's always lots of yelling and cheering and friendly competition.
We also have a camping trip every fall right when we move back into the house. It's held at Comlara Park by Lake Bloomington, and let me tell you, there is nothing funnier than a bunch of girls trying to put up tents. Nonetheless, it is such a good time to sit around a fire, make s'mores, tell stories, and look up at a gorgeous star-filled sky. Even the girliest of Alpha Gams love our camping trip.
We also have seasonal events like pumpkin carving, cookie decorating and egg-dyeing that always bring us together. It's great to have time to let loose and hang out with our sisters.
