Jodie Daquilanea,
a freshman majoring in psychology and religion, comes from Woodridge, Illinois - a suburb about fifty minutes west of Chicago. She has practiced yoga for some years now. She has also received some extensive training in deep meditation dealing with the chakras and other aspects of yogic physiology. She loves yoga for its application of the mind-body connection. As she often states, "Yoga is meditation in motion." Daquilanea has recently received an RA position in Troyer Hall.
Her favorite yoga poses are surya namaskar (Sun Salutation),
bhujangasana (Cobra pose), Gomukhasana (Cow head pose), Pabanamuktasana (lying Wind-Release), padmasana (Lotus pose), and sabasana (corpse pose). Other than yoga,
her interests include writing extensively (poetry, journals, and commentaries), drawing (her favorite media are charcoals and pastels), and collecting beautiful Tarot decks.
Daquilanea has been volunteering to teach yoga from the conception of the
yoga program. She is a founder of the program.
Satish Lohani,
a sophomore double majoring in mathematics and
economics, comes from Kathmandu, Nepal. He has been doing yoga every
morning regularly since he was 11 years old. He never thought of giving
up yoga because "not only yoga made me pretty healthy but also it
helped me to be calm under pressure. It also made me realize the
spiritual aspects of life."
His favorite yoga poses are headstand, vajrasana (thunderbolt pose),
padmasana (lotus pose), and sabasana (corpse pose). Other than yoga,
his interests include collection of stamps and coins from all over the
world, music, and computer games.
Lohani has been volunteering to teach yoga from the conception of the
yoga program. He is a founder of the program.
