Responsible for all private fund-raising on the Urbana campus. My role has included working with the campus executive officers and college deans to define development objectives and strategies; soliciting gifts of all sizes from individuals, corporations, and foundations; coordinating the fund-raising efforts of 70 professional staff in campus units; serving as a member of the University of Illinois Foundation’s management team; and leading campus efforts to achieve its $1 billion goal as part of the University’s comprehensive campaign.

Specific duties included serving as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and Budget Committee, the Campus Planning Committee, and the Instructional Technologies Board; chairing the Computer Fee Advisory Committee; conducting a study of progress and problems with the campus network; coordinating gift and sales relationships with major computer companies; and serving on a task force concerned with reorganizing the Athletic Association.

Directed activities of the Council on Program Evaluation (COPE), a committee responsible for evaluating all academic units on campus; chaired a steering committee responsible for allocating a $12 million equipment grant from IBM; served on the Chancellor’s Budget Committee and the Advisory Committee on Campus Priorities; developed and implemented an evaluation procedure for administrative and support units; responded to program review inquiries from the Illinois Board of Higher Education; developed early retirement options for the faculty; and served on the management committee for University High School.

Specific responsibilities included developing a procedure for COPE’s second cycle of departmental evaluations; coordinating data collection and report preparation for evaluations; undertaking a study of faculty attrition; and helping design and implement a faculty survey concerned with assessing departmental quality.

Helped design and implement projects relating to the evaluation and planning role of the office. Some specific responsibilities included developing planning memoranda, as part of a three-year evaluation planning project, for four schools and colleges and all academically related units (e.g., centers and institutes); coordinating the preparation of five-year enrollment targets for the University; and preparing reports resulting from a peer information exchange.
