Illinois Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble Inauguration Concert
Friday, April 8
8 p.m.
Westbrook Auditorium
The Illinois Wesleyan University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Tom Streeter, will present an Inauguration Concert on Friday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.
The Jazz Ensemble is building upon a long and illustrious heritage, which has seen the band perform concerts throughout the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean. The Jazz Ensemble is open to all students of the University by audition. Liberal Arts students are encouraged to play side by side with their music major peers. The emphasis of the ensemble is to develop skills which would make a student competitive in the jazz /commercial playing field, as well as competent in conducting his / her own jazz ensemble. The literature for the ensemble includes the finest music from all big band styles, with an emphasis on the jazz "classics."
The band tours extensively, including performances at Disneyland, Disney World, in Phoenix, Nashville, L.A., Nassau, in the Bahamas, Japan and the United Kingdom. The band has also been featured at numerous jazz festivals and at the Illinois Music Educators Association conferences.
Guest soloists with the band have included Jamey Aebersold, Denis DiBlasio, Jo Pass, Ed Shaughnessy, Bobby Shew and Chris Vadala. The Ensemble has recorded a CD featuring music of the swing era, plus another more recent CD spotlighting the band playing more contemporary literature. The CDs are available at the IWU Bookstore, the IWU School of Music office, and at our concerts.
