Vice Chairman of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice
B. Charles Ames Featured Speaker at Associates Luncheon



BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — B. Charles Ames, vice chairman of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, will be the featured speaker at the annual Illinois Wesleyan Associates Luncheon on Wednesday, April 10.

The title of Ames’s speech is "Building a Culture for Continuous Improvement: You’ve got to CHANGE the Management, or change the MANAGEMENT!"

Ames is a 1950 Illinois Wesleyan graduate who went on to earn the master’s of business administration from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business. He was named IWU’s Distinguished Alumnus in 1990. Earlier this year the University celebrated the opening of The Ames Library which is named in recognition of the $14-million leadership gift from Ames and his wife, Joyce Eichhorn Ames, a member of the Class of 1949 at IWU.

Ames joined Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, one of the oldest and most respected private equity investment firms in the world, in 1987. He was previously chairman and chief executive officer of Reliance Electric Company, chief executive officer of Acme Cleveland Corporation, and chief executive officer and chairman of The Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company.

Ames is a director of the Remington Arms Company, Inc., serves as chairman of Riverwood International Corporation and Schulte GmbH & Co. KG, and is vice chairman of Kinko's, Inc.

In addition to his corporate achievements, Ames is the co-author of numerous books on management, including most recently, Market-Driven Management: Creating Profitable Top-line Growth. He serves on the Boards of Directors of Progressive Corporation and Lexmark International, Inc.

The Illinois Wesleyan Associates, formed in 1953, is a group of business and professional leaders interested in the advancement and support of independent higher education. The Associates provide internships and job opportunities for IWU students, as well as financial support for students from McLean County. There are 155 McLean County students enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan this year, representing 7.7% of the student body.

This is the 50th anniversary of the Illinois Wesleyan Associates. The organization was formed by Adlai Rust in 1953, president and chairman of the board of State Farm Insurance Companies from 1938 to 1970, when he retired from active participation in the company.
