Singer/Songwriter Ari Hest to Perform at Illinois Welseyan Aug. 25, 2003 The Office of Student Activities at Illinois Wesleyan University has been flooded with e-mails during the past few weeks from people all over the Midwest wanting information about acoustic guitarist Ari Hests scheduled performance on Sept. 5. Hest will perform with his band at Illinois Wesleyans Hansen Student Center, 300 Beecher St., Bloomington, at 8 p.m. His show is free and open to the public. In the past couple years, 23-year-old Hest, a New York native and NYU graduate, has played at over 200 clubs and colleges across the U.S., building a strong fan base among young adults. He recently finished recording his third LP, Story After Story, which followed 2001s Come Home, and his first album, Incomplete, recorded in 1999. Hest, who began his career playing Dave Matthews and Jeff Buckley covers for high school functions in the Bronx, already has fans at IWU due to his visit last year when he played for a packed crowd on a Wednesday night. His music is amazing, said Kevin Clark, director of student activities. Students who saw him here the first time, absolutely loved him. According to his fans, Hests distinctive voice elevates him as an artist, and is reminiscent of musicians such as James Taylor and Peter Gabriel. Hest will be backed by his band, which includes drummers Clayton Craddock and Shawn Pelton, keyboardist Doug Petty, and bassist Darrell Briscoe. For additional information, contact Clark at (309) 556-3850 or kclark@iwu.edu.
