Illinois Wesleyan University’s Family Weekend Spring 2003

During the Spring Family Weekend 2003 the families of Illinois Wesleyan students will have the opportunity to see how their college-age children are living.

Sponsored by Illinois Wesleyan's Student Senate and coordinated by Fall Family Weekend chairperson Beth Stocking, a sophomore undecided major from Champaign, and the Senate’s Special Events Commissioner Laura Jaskierski, a sophomore business major from LaGrange, Ill., Family Weekend events will take place Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 13.

For those families arriving on Friday evening, there will be a Jazz Lab Band concert in Westbrook Auditorium in Presser Hall, 1210 Park St. There will also be an opportunity for parents to view their children’s vocal talents, as students perform their own renditions of two cover songs during “Undercover 2” at Hansen Student Center, 300 Beecher St.

Registration for parents begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Hansen Student Center, at which families can pick up a detailed schedule of events for the weekend. After registration, there will be a President’s Reception that will include the University provost, and distinguished faculty including past winners of the DuPont Teaching Award, and winners of the Student Senate Professor of the Year Award. Following the reception, a luncheon will be served in the Main Lounge of Memorial Center, 104 University Ave., with remarks by Provost Janet McNew, faculty, staff and students.

The remainder of the afternoon gives parents the opportunity to see artwork in the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, 6 Ames Plaza, visit residence halls, attend one of five senior recitals at Westbrook Auditorium, cheer on the Lady Titans as the softball team takes on Elmhurst College, or sit in on singer-songwriters, Kristina Olsen and Dave Moore, at the Blue Moon Coffeehouse.

Sunday morning, families can enjoy brunch in the Bertholf Commons in Memorial Center, and conclude their Family Weekend by attending a concert by the IWU Chamber Ensembles in Evelyn Chapel, 1301 Park St., or visiting senior BFA/BA Art Exhibitions at the Joyce G. Eichhorn Ames School of Art.
