Background: The Blue Moon Coffeehouse eagerly awaits the return of Peter Mulvey to Illinois Wesleyan Universitys campus. Saturdays performance will be a CD release concert celebrating his latest work, Ten Thousand Mornings.
Ten Thousand Mornings was recorded in the subway stations of Boston over the past year. The record is a collection of songs by some of Mulvey's favorite songwriters, which include Elvis Costello, Gillian Welch, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Dar Williams, Marvin Gaye, and others. The album also includes special guest appearances by Chris Smither, Erin McKeown, and Jennifer Kimball.
Mulvey, who writes insightful lyrics that reveal the subtext of the situation-stories he writes about, is a college graduate from Milwaukee. He moved to Ireland in the early nineties, with guitar, and performed on the streets of Dublin. He then got word that acoustic music was booming in Boston, and moved back to the U.S., and, in between the occasional paying gig, played in the local subways to pay the rent. The Irish Times says that Mulvey is consistently the most original and dynamic of the U.S. singer-songwriters to tour these shores
A phenomenal performer with huge energy, a quickfire, quirky take on life, and an extraordinary guitar style
a joy to see.
