Event: Lecture by Chinese Economist on "The Impact of Traditional Chinese Culture on Economic Development in China"

Admission: Free, open to the public

Background: Dr. Qixiang Sun, associate dean of the School of Economics at Beijing University, will be present a lecture entitled "The Impact of Traditional Chinese Culture on Economic Development in China" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, in the Center for Natural Science, Room C101. The event is free and open to the public and is student Risk Management & Finance Society

Sun is a rising star in the field of insurance economics and has published extensively on a variety of topics related to the Chinese insurance market. She has more than 70 published papers as well as ten book publications. She has been a visiting professor at such institutions as Harvard University, University of Indiana-Bloomington, and Hong Kong University. In addition to serving as associate dean at Beijing University, she is also the chairperson of the Risk and Insurance Department and holds the C.V. Starr Endowed Chair.

In addition to her presentation at 7 p.m., Sun will also be participating in an informal "chat" sessions from 10:10 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the Underground of Memorial Center where she will discuss questions regarding differences in education between the United States and China as well as her personal story of advancing to the highest levels of academia in China while coming of age during the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
