Illinois Wesleyan University’s Merwin and Wakeley Galleries present: The Southern Graphics Council Traveling Exhibition and Utilitarian x 9 pottery

Date: Aug. 28 through Sept. 26, 2003 (Galleries closed on Labor Day)

Time: Gallery hours: Monday-Friday: 12-4 p.m.
Tuesday evening: 7-9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 1-4 p.m.
Aug. 28 (Thursday): 4 p.m. opening reception for both exhibitions

Location: Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, Joyce G. Eichhorn Ames School of Art
6 Ames Plaza West, Bloomington

Background: The Southern Graphics Council Traveling Exhibition features 39 prints by 35 contemporary printmakers from the U.S. and Canada. The show, which was juried by Lloyd Menard, a printmaker from the University of South Dakota, includes 13 intaglios, 5 reliefs, 2 lithographs, and 13 mixed media works.

Utilitarian x 9 will feature work by some of America’s most accomplished potters including Mary Louise Carter, Sam Clarkson, Sam Chung, Julia Galloway, Allison McGowan, Alleghany Meadows, Lisa Orr, Diane Rosenmiller, and Nicholas Seidner. The handmade pottery in this exhibition is greatly inspired by nature and the history of the medium, and varies in shape, surface, and detail.
