Background: University Chaplain Dennis E. Groh, 61, who is also a Professor of Humanities and Archaeology at Illinois Wesleyan, will lead a worship service in honor of the new freshman class. The service will feature a musical selection by tenor Jeremy Fisher, class of 2007.
Groh specializes in early Christianity and the archeology of Israel in the Roman and Byzantine Periods. He has taught previously at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and was an Advisory Member of the Graduate Faculty of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
An ordained Elder of the United Methodist Church, Groh regularly delivers sermons at Illinois Wesleyans Evelyn Chapel and has spoken at numerous other colleges and universities including Albion College, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel), Brown University, Oxford University, Princeton University, and the University of Chicago.
