Event: Illinois Wesleyan Universitys Environmental Studies Program and the Development Studies Team are co-sponsoring a talk by Michael Dorsey, one of 15 National Directors of the Sierra Club.

Background: Michael Dorsey, the National Director of the Sierra Club selected to represent the organization at the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), will present a talk entitled, Justice and Accountability, and Other High Roads to Sustainability.
Dorsey also serves on the Board of the Center for Environmental Health and has been active in numerous other domestic and international environmental organizations. In addition, he has published widely on an array of issues including sustainable development, biodiversity, and environmental racism.
Dorsey is presently a visiting lecturer at Dartmouth Colleges Environmental Studies Program, where he teaches courses on political ecology and environmental justice. He is also finishing his Ph.D. at the University of Michigans School of Natural Resources and the Environment.
The Sierra Club was founded by naturalist and writer John Muir in 1892 to protect the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada. Over the years, the activities of the Sierra Club have expanded to include issues ranging from climate change and energy to toxic chemical contamination and loss of biological diversity. The Sierra Club actively works on matters of public policy and environmental awareness.
