SONiA and disappear fear
Saturday, September 26

Special guest: Freebo

SONiA Rutstein returns to the Blue Moon with disappear fear, the band she has fronted in many incarnations. We are thrilled that when disappear fear returns to play Blue Moon this fall, we will welcome back some of the original members of the band, along with Sonia and current band member Laura Cerulli. This is a tight ensemble that is known for its complex harmonies, excellent musicianship and fearless stage presence. SONiA writes with intensity and to-the-bone honesty while delivering her songs with both electric and acoustic guitars, a "dylanesque" harmonica and a big voice that rocks a house. SONiA's writing draws from modern day subjects. She delivers these songs with a powerful angst and passion that moves people to dance, to smile or to cry. Fans across the country respond to SONiA's call to love out loud and to confront the difficult issues of our times--from the political struggle against censorship to those for human rights to the turmoil and triumph of the heart.

SONiA is one of the most dynamic performers in music today. She performs energetic, conscience-driven music. Solo or with her band disappear fear, she delivers powerful songs that challenge injustice, performed with passion and hope. Her last studio CD "TANGO" is SONiA's dance with the world blending Latin and Middle Eastern folk pop sounds while staying true to her life long cause of a world without fear. The album weaves personal trials of love and romance next to heartfelt political ideologies. From djembes, tin whistles, violins and acoustic guitars the songs resonate with the vocal harmonies of disappear fear in English, Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic. The release tour took her from the Middles East to Australia including a sold out show at the Sydney Opera House. The album was inspired by a tour in the Middle East in 2006 where several concerts had to be held in Miklats (bomb shelters). Following a performance at a Palestinian girl's summer camp where they requested to keep her guitar SONiA decided to start Guitars for Peace which delivers guitars to children in war torn or impoverished areas. The idea is "Guitars not Guns" and it has continued to grow with people reaching out to help deliver guitars from around the world, the first two going to the girls in Bida. This summer in between festivals and painting commissions, SONiA is producing the debut album for the 15 year Daniel Pearl Foundation Violinist Sam Weiser and recording her first Blues CD.
