The first time
Cheryl Wheeler came to play the Blue Moon Coffeehouse was
the first time I had ever met her.
Her
reputation as a gifted artist and sardonic wit with cynical
but humorous takes on life preceded her visit to our little
venue. Walking across the hall to say hello, I offered my
hand as I introduced myself. Cheryl took one look at me and
said, "Great hair..." Admittedly, this might not pack the
same wallop as if Lucy Kaplansky had said it (which by the
way, Lucy did not), but a compliment from the great
Cheryl Wheeler is a compliment...and I remember that first
meeting as vividly as I do her first of many Blue Moon
shows.
Cheryl Wheeler is a highly acclaimed singer-songwriter who
is a familiar presence and an extremely popular artist on
the New England coffeehouse circuit. She is one of a handful
of artists who can charm an audience regardless of their
entertainment expectations, political stance or current
state of affairs. She is known in acoustic circles as a
songwriter's songwriter and is an artist of contrasts. Her
music is introspective and tender, yet her stage presence is
often sarcastic, cynical, and sardonic to the point of
hilarity. Although her recordings are perhaps unequaled in
passion and truism, Cheryl's live performances surpass all
of her recorded efforts. Witty. Sensitive. Distinctive.
Marvelous. She instantly connects with her audience and
isn't afraid to reveal the secrets behind her songs. Her
music has been covered by a variety of folk and country
artists including Maura O'Connell ("Summer Fly"), Dan Seals
("Addicted") and Suzy Bogguss, who scored a number one hit
with her rendition of Wheeler's "Aces". It is an honor to
present a performer who has the talent and experience that
Cheryl Wheeler always brings to the acoustic stage. Cheryl's
