Course Description:

Economics 100 is a one-semester course designed to serve students interested in general education, as well as students majoring in Economics, and allied fields.

The course focuses on the use of economic theory to address a variety of economic and social problems. At the micro level, it deals with problems of market structure, efficiency, poverty and the income distribution. At the macro level, it deals with problems of unemployment, inflation, the balance of payments and economic growth. The course emphasizes US economic issues, but also explores problems of the international economy.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have begun to understand the economic approach to problem solving, and to appreciate the range of problems to which it can be applied. And you will have the background to continue your study with the economic applications that most interest you. Likely followup courses include:
