Fire Safety
Objectives: Students learn and can demonstrate fire safety rules.
Advance Organizer: Have fireman from local fire department come in to speak to class.
Methods/Procedure:
1) Before fireman/woman arrives in classroom, discuss with students how to listen politely to the guest speaker. Tell the students that you expect no talking to their neighbors, eyes on the guest and no drawing or writing. Students should be encouraged to ask any questions they have at appropriate times.
2) Introduce fireman/woman.
3) Fireman/woman gives their lesson and students can practice any fire safety skills they have learned.
4) Applaud and thank fireman/woman for their time and information.
5) Color coloring sheet if time permits and answer any lingering questions students may have.
Concepts: Learn fire safety rules and about fire fighters’ responsibilities
Resources: Fire safety video (probably from the fire station), contact with local fire department, coloring sheet for students
Assessment: N/A
Closure: Fire safety video should be shown to tie entire experience together.
