Born in Monroe, Ohio, was the youngest member at the Founding at only 14 years old. His academic prowess at age thirteen prompted the principal of his local academy to suggest his entering into college. He is best remembered for his spirit of youth and his element of creative genius.
He graduated at age sixteen form Miami University and began practicing law in Ohio and eventually began a career as an educator in Mississippi.
He enlisted in the Confederate army during the Civil War and was taken prisoner. He rejected an offer of freedom on condition that he deny his allegiance to the Confederacy. Following the war, he returned to Mississippi an was admitted to the bar. He traveled frequently, writing as a journalist and practicing law. In 1912 he died in Biloxi and was buried in Biloxi Cemetery. In his room were found the latest issues of The Sigma Chi Quarterly.
