German Essay Correction Abbreviations
I will use these notations when evaluating your written work, including Aufsätze.
| E | Endung: a wrong ending on a der-word, ein-word, or adjective |
| G | Genus: the gender of the noun is wrong |
| K | Kasus: any case error |
| I | Interpunktion: punctuation error |
| R | Rechtschreibung: spelling error (including capitalization) |
| SV | Subjekt/Verb-Übereinstimmung: any error in verb construction in the present tense or past tense (subject-verb agreement, verb spelling, modal conjugation + infinitive, auxilliary and/or participle in present perfect tense, etc.) |
| T | Tempus/tense: the verb is in the wrong tense to make sense in this sentence. In most cases, change present tense to past (present perfect/simple past) or change past tense to present |
| W | Wort: you have selected an incorrect word or group of words which does not have the meaning in German which you need for this sentence to make sense |
| \___ or S | Wortstellung: word order error: be especially careful of the position of the verb. Switch around the elements, which are on either side of the middle slash. |
| Z | Zahl: Number: singular oder plural? |
| | Omission: you have omitted a word or phrase |
