Student-Led
Discussions
Below you will find seven teams of two (in one case three) students
each. Each team is
responsible for leading a 30-minute discussion of the reading to which
they've been assigned. Check the schedule for the day and reading for
which you're responsible.
Your main goals for this task are:
- To make sure students understand
the reading
- To engage students in a
discussion of the reading
- To relate this particular reading to other
readings/discussions/ideas which have emerged during class
You can use a variety of techniques to achieve these goals, including:
- informal writing
- discussion questions, perhaps assigned ahead of time
- audience "performances" (mock trials, dialogues, etc.)
- online presentations (but lecturing is a bad idea)
- music, video clips (not over about 4 minutes)
You can assign students to do some work ahead of time, too. And you can
use the questions and topics posted on the message board to guide you.
