Titans Place Four on All-CCIW Softball Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Four Illinois Wesleyan University players were named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-league softball squad.

Seniors Jenny Hayes and Sara Kummer and juniors Beth Keller and Christie Evitt were among the 24 players chosen by league coaches to the all-CCIW team.

Hayes, a pitcher from Joliet (West HS), was also on the all-league team a year ago. In league play this spring she was 8-2 with a 0.80 earned run average. She struck out 44 in 61 innings and pitched a no-hitter vs. Millikin in the CCIW tournament last weekend.

Kummer, a centerfielder from Normal (U High), was an all-CCIW selection as a sophomore. This year she paced IWU in conference play with a .400 average and also led the team with 16 runs batted in, 10 walks, 14 runs scored, and three home runs.

Keller, a second baseman from Normal (Community HS), is on the all-CCIW team for the first time. She batted .271 against the league and had a team-hish 10 stolen bases. She was second on the team with 11 runs batted in and had a .984 fielding percentage, making only one error in 64 chances.

Evitt, a catcher from Naperville (Oak Lawn Community HS), is on the all-conference team for the third straight year. She batted .348 in CCIW play with one double, one triple, two home runs, and nine RBI.

The Titans, who finished second in the league tournament to North Central, were 27-12-1 overall and 9-5 in the CCIW.

North Central sophomore shortstop Amanda Talley was the CCIW "Player of the Year."
