Abram Plum

Abram Plum Dies at 74

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Abram Plum, 74, associate professor of music theory and composition at Illinois Wesleyan University, died on May 10, 2002. A prolific composer, Plum joined the IWU faculty in 1965 and retired in 1991. He returned to the School of Music in 1996 to serve as an accompanist.

Plum wrote for many media, including electronic music, voice, wind, and chamber ensembles. He was also the author of two commerically published ear-training programs for Apple computers.

A retrospective performance of Plum's compositions was presented in 1990 at Westbrook Auditorium and also included choreography by his wife, Jane Nygood Plum, who was a frequent collaborator.

Plum is survived by his wife and their son.
