Illinois Wesleyan University’s Fall Family Weekend 2002

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Families of Illinois Wesleyan students will have the chance to see how their college-age students live during the annual Fall Family Weekend 2002.

Sponsored by Illinois Wesleyan's Student Senate and coordinated by sophomore music education major, Kara Gregory, Fall Family Weekend chairperson and junior political science major, Kate Duis, special events commissioner, the event takes place from Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday Sept. 22.

Families arriving on Friday night will have the opportunity to see comedian Gary Owens perform at 8 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St.

Registration for parents will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in the Hansen Student Center, where families can pick up a detailed schedule of events. There will be a Parent Council Forum hosted by Illinois Wesleyan representatives at 10:30 a.m. in the Ames Library, 1 Ames Plaza. At noon, Dean of Students Jim Matthews will deliver welcome remarks at a catered luncheon on the Eckley Quadrangle.

The remainder of the afternoon will give families the opportunity to see artwork in the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, visit residence halls, and to mingle with faculty members at the President's Reception in the Center for Natural Sciences, 201 E. Beecher St.

IWU plays Washington University in Illinois Wesleyan Stadium Saturday evening at 6 p.m., and singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer will return to IWU's Blue Moon Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. with a performance in the Westbrook Auditorium.

The final day of Family Weekend begins Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. when University Chaplain Dennis E. Groh '61 will lead an ecumenical worship service in Evelyn Chapel, 1301 N. Park St., followed by brunch in the Bertholf Commons, Memorial Student Center.
