Scholarship Honors Dwight Drexler

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University has established a scholarship to honor the commitment and contributions of R. Dwight Drexler, an emeritus professor of music at the university.

Drexler taught piano and piano theory at IWU from 1936 until his retirement in 1978. He twice served as interim director of the School of Music. A 1934 graduate of IWU, he earned degrees from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and the University of the Pacific.

The Drexler Scholarship, to be awarded annually, will help meet the financial need of the recipient who will be selected by School of Music faculty. It will also carry a cash prize. Upper-class music students exhibiting excellent ability and promise are eligible to receive the scholarship. The first recipient will be announced in September 2002.
