IWU Elects Nine New Trustees

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University has announced the election of nine new members to its Board of Trustees, including three trustees who were nominated by the IWU Alumni Association.

The elections occurred during the spring Board of Trustees meeting, which was held on the campus May 13 and 14. In addition to welcoming new members, the trustees also paid tribute to those colleagues who retired from active membership in the Board.

The new IWU Trustees are:

  • Richard D. Ames of Cleveland, Ohio, president of Command Plastic Corporation, a manufacturer of vinyl products and packaging in Akron, Ohio.
  • Jean S. Baird of Bloomington, a 1980 graduate of IWU and executive assistant at State Farm Insurance Companies.
  • Phyllis Barker of Chicago, a 1973 graduate of IWU and manager of Agency Wide Volunteer Services for the Safer Foundation.
  • Demetria Kalodimos of Brentwood., Tenn., a 1981 graduate of IWU and Emmy-winning news anchor for WSMV-TV in Nashville.
  • Thomas J. Neis of McHenry, Ill., a 1970 IWU graduate and owner of Neis Insurance Agency Inc., in Crystal Lake, Ill.
  • Ronald L. Ruecker of Decatur, a 1966 IWU graduate and a gastroenterologist with the Internal Medicine Subspecialty Associates, Ltd., of which he is president.
  • Ann R. Stroink of Bloomington, a 1976 IWU graduate and a neurosurgeon with the Central Illinois Neuro Health Sciences group.
  • Amanda S. Toney of Chicago, a 1974 IWU graduate who is in her second term as Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • Susan D. Waring of Bloomington, Ill., senior vice president, chief administrative officer, and a member of the Board of Directors of State Farm Life, State Farm Accident and Assurance, and State Farm Life and Annuity companies.

Barker, Neis, and Baird were the nominees of the IWU Alumni Association.

Six retiring trustees were elected to emeritus status: Ronald B. Cate of Wildrose, Wisc., Robert E. Davis of Hinsdale, John W. Maitland Jr. of Bloomington, Dr. Robert M. Reardon of Bloomington, Dr. Sidney G. Smith of Carbondale, and Anne Colwell Tryon of Frankfort, Mich.

The 2002-2003 officers for the IWU Board are Craig C. Hart, president; Gilbert L. Dorsey, first vice president; Herbert A. Getz, second vice president; George Vinyard, secretary; and Robert E. Field II, treasurer.
