Wagner, 309/556-3181 IWU To Induct Eight Students Into Nursing Honorary Society BLOOMINGTON, Ill.On April 21, eight Illinois Wesleyan University students and four community members were inducted into the Theta Pi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society for professional nursing. The induction ceremony took place in IWUs Evelyn Chapel with Deb Smith, vice president of Patient Services at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington as the guest speaker. Sigma Theta Tau International is the second largest and one of the most prestigious nursing organizations in the world, with approximately 120,000 active members. The societys members are active in more than 78 countries and territories, and 383 chapter honor societies are located on more than 450 college and university campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, and Australia. Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, and to community leaders who demonstrate exceptional achievement in nursing. The IWU chapter was established in 1983. Students are selected based on academic achievement, contribution to the profession, and from the recommendation of chapter members. Student members must have a 3.0/4.0 grade point average and rank in the upper 35 percentile of their graduating class. The IWU students were:
