Joe Buck To Address Illinois Wesleyan Associates

April 9, 2004

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Emmy Award-winning sports announcer Joe Buck will be the featured speaker for the 2004 Illinois Wesleyan Associates Luncheon on Friday, April 23, at the Shirk Center.

Buck, whose talk is entitled "Stories from the Big Leagues," currently handles the lead play-by-play duties for FOX Sports’ telecasts of professional football and baseball. He won Emmy Awards for his work in 1999, 2001, and 2002.

Born in St. Petersburg, Fla., Buck studied English and telecommunications at Indiana University. He is the son of the legendary broadcaster Jack Buck. He has been calling professional baseball since broadcasting for the Louisville Redbirds in Class AAA while at Indiana. He became the St. Louis Cardinals play-by-play announcer in 1991.

When he started broadcasting National Football League games for FOX Sports in 1994, he was the youngest announcer, at age 25, to do NFL games on network television on a regular basis. He has since become the first play-by-play announcer to handle both major league baseball and the NFL since NBC’s Curt Cowdy and ABC’s Al Michaels.

The Illinois Wesleyan Associates are business and professional leaders interested in the advancement and support of private higher education through scholarships and internships.
