IIllinois Wesleyan Honors Employees at Recognition Banquet

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Jenny Hand, executive secretary in Illinois Wesleyan University’s Andrew W. Mellon Center for Faculty and Curriculum Development, was named the third winner of the Max L. Starkey Service Award during the university's 12th annual recognition banquet Thursday night (3/27) at the Holiday Inn in Normal.

The banquet recognized members of the university community for their work throughout the year and included a special tribute to employees who celebrated milestone anniversaries in five-year increments. In addition, two retiring members of the administration — Mildred Clark, a data entry operator in the Office of Admissions, and James Ruoti, dean of admissions, were honored.

The Starkey award was established in 2001 and is named in honor of the late Max Starkey, IWU class of 1957 and university comptroller from 1957-1996. It is presented to a member of the administrative, technical, support, security or physical plant staffs nominated by his or her peers for extraordinary service.

In addition, 40th anniversary awards were presented Ruoti, and Roger Brucker and Mike Vinson, both of the Physical Plant.

Others recognized for their anniversaries were:

35th Year — Herman Detweiler (Physics Department).

30th Year — Grant Brougher (Publications, Printing and Mailing Services), Norma Criley, (Biology Department), Connie Dennis (School of Nursing).

25th Year —Linda Biehl (Telecommunications Office), Yvonne Borklund (Human Resource Office), C. Lawrence Campbell (School of Music), Donna Hartweg (School of Nursing), Sandi Myers (Office of Residential Life).

20th Year — Jack Fields (Office of the Registrar), Warren Johnson (Physical Plant), Millard Jorgenson (Physical Plant), Marlene Ortman (School of Art).
