Musician Matt Nathanson to Perform at Illinois Wesleyan

Sept. 15, 2003

Singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson, whose first major label debut is being released by Universal Records this month, will perform at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Hansen Student Center, 300 Beecher St., Bloomington, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. His concert, which is part of the Underground entertainment series, is free and open to the public.

Nathanson is known for mixing comedy with original music and has played with several accomplished artists including Jewel, Fiona Apple, John Mayer, O.A.R., Five for Fighting, David Gray, Guster, Train, and the band Rusted Root. His first single, a cover of the James song “Laid,” is featured in the movie American Wedding, which is currently in theaters.

“We’ve already received calls and e-mails about Nathanson’s show from the outside community, so he has a lot of notoriety,” said Kevin Clark, IWU’s assistant dean of students. “His material is awesome, and he’s also very funny.”

A New Hampshire native, Nathanson has spent the past 10 years performing in clubs and coffeehouses across the country. He has recorded five independent albums, including When Everything Meant Everything, which was released in 2002.
