Five Concerts to Highlight IWU Cello Camp

June 20, 2003

Cello concerts will be held at Illinois Wesleyan University on June 27, June 29, July 2, July 3, and July 5 as part of a cello camp for junior high and high school musicians.

All concerts are free and open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall, 1210 Park St., Bloomington with the exception of the July 5th concert, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. This concert, the 10th Annual Cello Celebration, will be a combined performance featuring cello camp students, camp faculty and special guests.

A variety of classical music will be performed at the first three concerts, while the July 3rd concert will focus on the works of Ludwig van Beethoven.

The IWU cello camp, which is in its fourth season, draws music students from eight states who participate in private lessons, ensembles, master classes, and elective studies such as piano, voice, music theory, international dance and painting during their week-and-a-half stay on Illinois Wesleyan’s campus.

Nina Gordon, assistant professor of cello and chamber music at Illinois Wesleyan and principal cellist of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, is the founder and director of the camp.

For additional information, contact Gordon at (309) 556-3828.
