Illinois Wesleyan Announces Faculty Tenure, Advancement

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Eleven Illinois Wesleyan University faculty members have been awarded tenure and promotions in rank while 10 more earned promotions in rank in action taken by the IWU Board of Trustees this week.
The faculty receiving tenure and promotion to associate professor from assistant professor are David Bollivar, biology; R. Kent Cook, music; April DeConick, religion; Ana Floriani, educational studies; Abigail Jahiel and William Munro, both political science; Sandra Lindberg, theatre arts; Valerie Orlando, modern and classical languages and literature; Rebecca Roesner, chemistry; Robert Schultz, history; and Constance Wells, art.
- Bollivar, a faculty member since 1996, has his bachelor's degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and earned his doctorate degree from Indiana University.
- Cook joined the IWU faculty in 1999. He earned his bachelors degree in music from Baylor University, and his masters and doctorate from Indiana University
- DeConick, a faculty member since 1997, has bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan.
- Floriani joined the faculty in 1997. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware, and her master's and doctorate degrees from the University of California-Santa Barbara.
- Jahiel joined the IWU faculty in 1999. She has a bachelors degree from Cornell University and earned her doctorate from the University of Michigan.
- Munro, a faculty member since 2000, has a bachelor's degree from Natal University in Pietermaritzburgh, and bachelors and master's degrees from Cambridge University. He also earned his doctorate degree from Yale University.
- Lindberg, a faculty member since 1997, has bachelor's and masters degrees from Illinois State University, and her master's degree from the University of San Diego.
- Orlando joined the IWU faculty in 1999. She has a bachelors degree from the University of Redlands, and earned her masters from George Mason University. She also earned her doctorate degree from Brown University.
- Roesner joined the IWU faculty in 1997. She has a bachelors degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and earned her doctorate from the University of Kansas.
- Schultz joined the IWU faculty in 1993. He has a bachelors degree from California State University-Fullerton and earned his masters and doctorates degrees from the University of Minnesota.
- Wells joined the IWU faculty in 1997. She has a bachelors degree from Rice University and a masters degree from Pratt University.
All tenure appointments and advancements will become effective at the start of the 2003-2004 academic year.
Ten Others Earn Promotions in Rank
Promoted to professor from associate professor are Connie Dennis, nursing; Irving Epstein, educational studies; R. Given Harper, biology; Gerald Olson, business administration; Mario Pelusi, music; and Nancy Sultan, modern and classical languages and literatures.
Promoted to associate professor from assistant professor are Teresa Zurick Fish, Christopher Schumacher and Michael Wagner, all physical education; and David Marvin, business administration.
- Dennis joined the IWU faculty in 1973 and has been an associate professor of nursing since 1990. She earned her bachelors degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, a masters degree from the University of Arizona and a doctorate from Illinois State University.
- Epstein joined the IWU faculty in 1996 as an associate professor of educational studies. He earned his bachelors degree from Lake Forest College, a masters from the University of Toronto, a masters from Claremont Graduate School, and his doctorate degree from the University of California Los Angeles.
- Harper joined the IWU faculty in 1992 and has been an associate professor of biology since 1998. He earned his bachelors degree at Transylvania University, his masters from Western Illinois University and a doctorate degree from Illinois State University.
- Olson joined the IWU faculty in 1986 and has been an associate professor of accounting since 1995. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees at Illinois State University.
- Pelusi joined the IWU faculty in 1998 as an associate professor of composition and theory. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees from University of Southern California. He also earned a masters and doctorate degree from Princeton University.
- Sultan joined the IWU faculty in 1993 and became an associate professor of Humanities and Classical studies in 1997. She earned her bachelors degree from the University of North Carolina, her masters from the University of Minnesota, and her doctorate from Harvard University.
- Zurick Fish, a faculty member since 1995, earned her bachelors degree at Kenyon College and her masters degree from Duke University. She serves as IWUs mens and womens swim coach.
- Schumacher, a faculty member since 1997, earned his bachelors and masters degrees at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He is IWUs head cross country coach for men and women and the head coach for womens track.
- Wagner, a faculty member since 1997, earned his bachelors degree at Augustana College and his masters degree from Illinois State University. He is an assistant football coach, an assistant athletic director and head strength coach.
- Marvin, a faculty member since 1994, earned his bachelors degree at St. Cloud (Minn.) State University, a juris doctor degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, and a masters of business administration degree from the University of Oklahoma.
