Background: On display in the Merwin Gallery will be the works of Chicago artist Andrew Young. His exhibition, entitled a brush of bells, will include a group of 25 collages that have been displayed in Illinois, North Carolina, Arizona, and Germany over the past two years. Young also will produce a large wall installation specifically designed for the Merwin Gallery.
Youngs work incorporates painting and drawing and taps into the rich history of collage. His collages skillfully combine botanical and bird imagery with pattern and color to evoke a mystical quality of other lands and times. He received his master of fine arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally and has been consistently recognized with reviews and awards.
On display in the Wakeley Gallery will be recent paintings by Indiana artist Mee Kyung Shim. Inspired by her Korean heritage and her study of Western art, Shims figurative paintings are an expression of her quest to find her own identity and to explore Korean philosophy.
Shim received her master in fine arts degree in painting from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. She has exhibited works throughout the Midwest and Korea. Shim currently lives and works in Fort Wayne, Ind.
