Background: Big Love, a tragicomedy, is the story of 50 sisters who have been pledged in marriage by their father to 50 of their cousins. The sisters flee on their wedding day and seek refuge in the home of a complete stranger.
The New York Times said, Playwright Charles L. Mee turns Greek drama on its ear as he boldly re-imagines Aeschylus The Suppliant Maidens (one of the oldest extant Greek dramas) to create Big Love, a work filled with surprise, astonishment and adventure.
Big Love was part of the 1999-2000 Humana Festival in Louisville, Ky., and has played at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and off-Broadway.
