Background: Dell is pastor of the Broadway United Methodist Church. A longtime supporter of rights for gays, lesbians, and bisexual persons, Dell is known for his stance on marrying same sex couples. His advocacy of same sex marriages resulted in a temporary suspension from his pastoral office in 1999.
Dell has served churches in Evanston, Minooka, and Naperville, Ill. He holds a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Illinois Wesleyan University (2000), a Master of Divinity degree from the Divinity School at Duke University (1970), and a B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan (1967).
