Event: Illinois Wesleyan University African Students’ Association and the African Studies Team present: the second annual African Culture Week

Nov. 5-10, 2002 (Tuesday-Sunday)

Admission: All events are free and open to the public

Background: On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Andre Kapanga, former Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the United Nations, will give a talk entitled, "Congo’s Peace Process and the Role of the United Nations," at 7 p.m. in room C102 of Illinois Wesleyan’s Center for Natural Science Learning and Research, 201 E. Beecher St.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, Faat Kine, an African film directed by Ousmane Sembene, will be introduced by Valerie Orlando, assistant professor of French, at 7 p.m. in the Beckman Auditorium of the Ames Library, 1 Ames Plaza.

On Friday, Nov. 8, Pachi Pamwe, an African Mbira (thumb piano) Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. at the Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, an "African Culture Night" with African food and entertainment will be presented at 6 p.m. at the Hansen Student Center.

The African Students’ Association, established in 2000, is an organization committed to providing a support group for the African students at Illinois Wesleyan University. The group seeks to provide awareness of issues affecting the African continent while concurrently providing accurate representations of Africa and her people.
