Event: Tommy’s New Music Series presents: Vocal performers/songwriters John Haugen and Matt Kooi, sponsored by the Office of Student Activities

Tommy’s, Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St., Bloomington

Admission:
Free, open to the public

Background: John Haugen, a first-year economics major from Minneapolis, Minn., and Matt Kooi, a first-year piano performance major from Tinley Park, Ill., will perform together as a duo for the first time.

Haugen, who is also a member of the a cappella group Resolution, will play the guitar and harmonica as well as sing vocals. He is influenced by the musical style of the Counting Crows, Tantric, and Bob Schneider.

Kooi, who writes most of the pair’s originals, will perform piano and vocals. His compositions combine pop, rock, and rap. Kooi’s musical influences range from Billy Joel to P.O.D.

Tommy’s New Music Series presents Illinois Wesleyan students with the opportunity to perform and display their talents in a live music setting.
