Spanish 360: Latin American Film

 
 

This course will study the cinematic production of Mexico, Cuba and Brazil as it deals with social, economic and racial struggle. It will allow students to understand the scope and relevance of Latin American film, in general, and the specifics of the filmic production of Mexico, Cuba and Brazil. 


They will see how major tendencies developed in Latin America in the production of film and how those films reflect the cultural, economic and social context in which they were produced. 


It will also develop their ability to read, understand and discuss films as a unique medium that combines a number of symbolic languages (visual, gestural, musical, etc.) and teach the ability to understand films as cultural products that are the result of particular historical conditions.
