Prairie Rivers Network
Monitoring the Mackinaw River

The Prairie Rivers Network works to protect the rivers and streams of Illinois and to promote the health of watershed communiites. Prairie Rivers helps individuals and community groups to become effective river conservation leaders.

Issue: The Mackinaw River Watershed, a 1,100 square mile basin in central Illinois, holds some of the most diverse aquatic communities in the state. The ecosystem is threatened by intensive rowcrop agriculture and destructive efforts. The major problem in the Mackinaw river is the high levels of sediment yield rates in the Illinois River basin.

This project needs to be worked on!

Check out the Prairie River Network website.

Contact Jim Simeone or Jim Sikora if you want to get involved.
